Teen Social Justice Journey 2025

Thursday, April 3, 2025 5 Nisan 5785

4:30 PM - 8:00 PM 3 days after

Let's examine Charlotteville's complex legacy while offering an immersive look at Jewish justice values and strategies for being an agent of change.

Through visits to sites of memory and history, meetings with community leaders, and dialogue-based workshops, teens will walk the path of history to acquire tools to shape their future.

Charlottesville sounds great! When do we leave, and how do we get there?
We will meet at BHC after school on Thursday, April 3rd,for a kick off and dinner. We plan to leave for Charlottesville after dinner. BHC Staff has rented a 15 passenger van, and will be driving together directly to our hotel in downtown Charlottesville.

That's so cool! What's the plan for when we're there?
We will be going to a variety of museums, historical sites, local treasures, and so much more! For Shabbat we will attend Friday night services at Congregation Beth Israel in Charlottesville, and learning about their history.

Who will be chaperoning?
Nomi Adams, Teen and Family Engagement Specialist, Julie Wohl, Director of Congregational Learning, and Avi Edelman our tour guide and trip leader will be chaperoning together. You will be able to contact them at any time during the trip (and hey, even before!)

Should l plan to miss any school?
Because we are leaving Thursday evening, your child will only miss one day of school on Friday, April 4th. If your school requires a note to excuse their absence, let us know, we can provide the required documentation.

Are meals included?
Breakfast will be included with the hotel and each day lunch and dinner will be a little different. Some meals will be all together, others will be chosen on your own during free time. If any of you have been on a trip with Nomi before, you know she will have plenty of snacks.

We're In!! How much does the trip cost?
With gratitude to the Mille and Alvin Blum 8th-12th Grade Teen Program, the total cost of this trip including hotels, transportation, most meals, museums, and workshops is $500. We never want cost to be a barrier for any of our experiences, please reach out to Nomi (nadams@baltimorehebrew.org) for scholarship opportunities.
